Designer: Hwa Sook Lee Bora

In August, the amazing Bora showcased her Spring/Summer 2013 range at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival in Brisbane at the Brisbane Arcade Show, as a special bonus I was able to catch up with her, after the show, to chat about her "Allure Collection"...

Q: Tell us a little about this collection?

The latest collection is Alluring Couture in natural fabrics and features the colour Pure White representing the source of light and purity.

Q: You split your time between Australia and Korea, do you get your inspiration from your Korean heritage?

Yes, I reflect on my culture and life around me.  This year I have been inspired by the fever surrounding the Olympic games.  I felt the Grecian influence in my designing and found it an inspiration for the sophisticated flowing styles and soft fabrics.  I combined this direction with Asian flair, which features glamorous embellishments of lace and crystals.

Q:  You have won copious awards in both regional and interstate, which has been the most treasured to you?
I was so overwhelmed when I won the Retailer Association of Qld Supreme award and felt so humbled to be recognized by industry leaders as a worthy recipient of this award.

Q: As a Brisbane based designer, how do you feel Australian fashion fares up internationally?

Australian Fashion is cutting edge and stands alone on the International catwalks.  Not only is Australian fashion outstanding in creative design, it is very wearable and diverse.  Australian designers cover all aspects of the fashion industry and styling from couture to casual and everything in between.

Q: Do you follow trends with your designs?

I do not follow trends as I like to get my inspiration from within and from nature and cultures rather than from what other designers are doing.  I feel that my designs transcend the seasons and can be a part of a woman’s wardrobe for a long time.  I hope my pieces will become favorites which cannot be parted with.

Q: Your designs are very feminine and romantic, what sort of woman do you dress for?

So many different women buy my designs and I am proud to say that I feel like I have something for every woman.  Of course the Bora boutique is known for its special occasion and eveningwear as well as its stunning bridal and mother of the bride range.  I also have fun casual day wear and accessories such as jewelry, hand bags and sunglasses.
